To use the wise words of pop princess Katy Perry, the UK weather recently has been very “hot and cold.” Although we may have almost gotten used to it, it still makes it super difficult to choose what to wear. Do you put on jeans and end up too hot, or do you wear a skirt and end up too cold. It’s an absolute fashion minefield.
But those clever clog designers have come up with the answer, and its been right under our noses since last Winter: The midi skirt.
Not a mini and not a maxi, the midi skirt is the perfect length. It’s not so long you trip over it when you’re walking, and it’s not too short that Mr Parsons from down the street gets a good look at your favourite lacy knickers.
The midi covers a multitude of sins, yet can still be worn with flats, trainers, flip-flops, heels and boots. As well as blouses, crop tops, t-shirts and jumpers. And on top of all that, they can even be worn with bare legs or tights. What could be better?
Well, I’ll tell you what could be better… the fact that they come in a huge range of different materials, colours, patterns, prints, shapes and sizes. And the shops are literally giving them away (OK, so not literally) but there is a huge range, and most of them are at really affordable prices.
An item that will see you through from Summer to Autumn and Winter, the midi should be your new BFF. Here’s my pick of the best midi skirts on the high street at the moment.
This skirt would be great for work or play. It looks lovely above with a vest and heels, but could also be worn with a blouse and loafers, and accessorised with a cute clutch or satchel.
Similar to the RI skirt above, this bright beauty taps in to the A/W colour pop trend, and would look fab with tights and some bright wedges or heels, as well as a cropped blazer or a sexy silky vest and a belt.
OK, so this one might be a little pricier than the others, but it is lovely and Mango have dolled it up to look super classy. You can get similar and cheaper versions from ASOS, River Island or Missguided.
This is a more tailored midi, which would be great for the office or just for that polished look. The smarty pants stylists at ASOS have even teamed it with Autumn and Winters favourite shirt, the pussy-bow and it looks lovely.
This Boohoo midi really is the bargain of the bunch, and proves even the poorest of us can get hold of this trend. This would look great dressed down with Converse and a denim jacket, or dressed up with black wedge boots and a black cropped tee or vest.
So, whether preened and polished or rebel and rocky, this range of midi’s shows you really can find one to suit your style, and your pocket.
Which is your favourite midi skirt?
Steph

I also love wearing the midi skirt, the midi skirt is more comfortable and convenient than mini skirt. Especially the pencil is my favourite style. It’s very elegant.
Great selection! I do love the mango one, very pretty. I’ve been religiously wearing my midi skirts for ages, I keep finding them in charity shops and falling in love! I like mine long, pleated and swishy. Perfect!
The Mango skirt is a stunner! I worry about longer skirts, but some of these are very stylish
Bhav xx
The midi skirt is definitely perfect for this weather! I have a few and they do come in pretty handy. I love the mango pleated one.
Flippy, A-line midi skirts are a real favourite of mine!
