The mini skirt – the little skirt with the big impact

3 Aug

Following last weeks post on the marvel that is this midi skirt, I thought it was about time to give another classic a chance, not being sizeist and all. So this week it’s the turn of the mini skirt.

Short and sweet, the mini does exactly what it says on the coat hanger. It may not suit everyone and it can be harder to wear than the midi and the maxi, but the mini is a sure-fire staple for any gals wardrobe.

Made famous by Mary Quant, the mini has been around for decades and definitely isn’t going anywhere soon. Raise your hand if you have a black mini skirt ladies?

They can be worn with flats by day and heels by night, with bare legs or tights and not to mention what you can wear on the top half. They can easily be incorporated with any of the latest trends, just by adding a certain top, scarf, shoe or accessory. If you’re not afraid to show off your pins, the mini skirt is just about one of the most versatile items you can buy.

So whether you’re planning to wear it with 50 deniers and biker boots, ankle socks and brogues or even flip-flops and your favourite shades, here’s the pick of the best minis in the shops right now.

The classic Little Black Skirt from Topshop, £22

A classy camel coloured skater skirt from River Island, £30

The perfect leather mini, in the sale at Asos for just £39

A gorgeous River Island cream crochet mini, £40, also available in black

Belted blue mini skirt, £15, Boohoo

Show off some skin in this nude bandage skirt from Missguided, £15

The Missguided mini is also available in the colour of the moment - berry

Peacocks floral belted skirt, £16
Bow and stripe red mini skirt, £35, Urban Outfitters

Cheap and cheerful, bright and bold or prim and pretty, this choice of mini skirts has something for everyone. So whether you’re wearing it to work, out on the town, for a picnic in the ;/park or even a posh meal, the mini is a short skirt, with a big impact.

Which is your favourite mini skirt?

PS Stay tuned for the last in this skirt installment, the maxi.

I LOVE the nude one. I love minis, the shorter the better! Midi’s are lost on me! Xx

The camel skater style one, every time. With a white t-shirt, red shoes and a red hat (colour coordination, oh yes) and acres of pasty white British leg :).. I’m ashamed to say that I don’t own a black mini skirt! I do have them in quite a few other colours though!

I love the blue one, it’s very cute, I always love the blue. And the nude one is also very beautiful, because the nude colour is very popular in this year.
